OOC Age: 24

How long have you been roleplaying?: Several years

In a short paragraph, describe what you think the Navy/Airforce does: The Navy in reality is a maritime force that operates ships in the ocean, and any maritime environment (in the lore it does that as well). In this RP the Navy evolved and started operating ships in space. The "Air Force" (or aviation in this case) conducts aerial operations such as CAS, SEAD, CSAR, aerial reconnaissance, transportation and etc. The Air Force also does other jobs in reality.

Are you applying for a pilot character, or a member of the ships crew?: Ship's crew.

Name: Mike O'Neil

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Race: White Caucasian

What is your reason for wanting to become a member of the Navy?: O'Neil's reason for wanting to join the Navy is because of family tradition. He's third generation Navy.

Characters Backstory (2 Paragraphs!):

O'Neil was born in New Philadelphia, his father was in the Navy while his mother was a nurse. He had gone into public school while he grew up. He had a normal day job for awhile during and after graduating from high school, however he gained financial troubles. He considered joining the Navy but decided to stay as a civilian considering his ties to his home world. Later his father passed away and losing anything tying him to his city, he decided to join the Navy and he was on his way to recruit training.

O'Neil would go through Navy Recruit Training at Hauser where he would learn the basics for eight weeks. After graduating basic training, he would go to A school (Navy version of AIT) where he would receive training for the job he had signed up for. The ship he was assigned to was on a port in Hauser's orbit. The ship would be leaving for a scheduled deployment soon and he would be serving with the crew on board. He would be reporting to his station there soon.

Show how you solve this problem with good detail:

Mike O'Neil is standing in front of a monitor in the reactor room.
The monitor starts beeping
The monitor says "WARNING: REACTOR TEMPERATURE RISING"
Mike O'Neil: Shit, temperatur's rising.
Mike O'Neil interacts with the monitor attempting to restore coolant flow
The monitor says "ERROR, COOLANT FLOW HAS BEEN INTERRUPTED"
Mike O'Neil: Shit.... Alright alright think.... Emergency coolant should slow it down.
Mike O'Neil interacts with the monitor again, this time trying to activate the emergency coolant
The monitor shows the temperatures is decreasing, but the emergency coolant is only temporary.
Mike O'Neil: Alright..... maybe there's something wrong with the primary coolant.
Mike O'Neil checks the monitor on the primary coolant
The monitor shows the coolant flow and indicates that it's coolant is leaking into the the room.
Mike O'Neil: What?!
Mike O'Neil checks around the back of the coolant tower
Coolant is leaking on the other side
Mike O'Neil reaches for a phone to call the bridge
Mike O'Neil: Sir, the reactor's coolant tower is leaking, we need a repair crew down here!
Mike O'Neil: Yes sir, I activated the emergency coolant tower when the temperature started rising.
Mike O'Neil: Yes, sir.
A group of Navy personnel arrive with welding tools.
A crewman says "Might want to deactivate the coolant tower."
Mike O'Neil: Alright.
Mike O'Neil interacts with the monitor, deactivating the primary coolant while the emergency tower is still flowing
The primary tower deactivates.
One of the crewmen say "You might wanna look away. This shit can blind you."
Mike O'Neil nods and turns around and looks away.
The crew begins working on the damaged tower.
Loud cracking noises can be heard as the welding tools are activated and begin their work on the tower.
A few minutes pass
The crew stops welding, and turns off their tools.
One of them says "Alright, check and see if that fixed the problem."
Mike O'Neil turns around, and nods his head.
Mike O'Neil interacts with the monitor, reactivating the coolant tower.
The monitor says "COOLANT FLOW ACTIVE"
The machine emits a noise indicating that it's active.
Mike O'Neil: Alright, looks like the job's done...
Mike O'Neil checks the reactor's monitor and deactivates the emergency coolant tower.
The monitor indicates the temperature is maintaining normal levels.
Mike O'Neil gives the welding crew a thumbs up, indicating the job's done.
The crew members nod and leave the room.
Mike O'Neil reaches for the phone again, calling the bridge.
Mike O'Neil: Sir, the damage to the tower has been fixed and the reactor's temperatures are maintaining normal levels.
Mike O'Neil: Yes sir, I'll let you know if the reactor temperature begins rising again.
Mike O'Neil: Yes sir, understood.
Mike O'Neil hangs up.
Mike O'Neil returns to his post on the monitor.

How long have you been roleplaying?: Around 3 to 4 years.

In a short paragraph, describe what you think the Navy/Airforce does: The Navy and Airforce are both in charge of support roles for ground units in their respective theaters of war. Naval support usually comes from exo-space ships such as destroyers and battlecruisers. Airforce support can come from a variety of different identities such as Air Strikes from helicopters and jets to ammunition and vehicle drops from cargo planes and helicopters.

Are you applying for a pilot character, or a member of the ships crew? If pilot, read the next question carefully!:

** If you are applying for a piloting role, do you know how to fly WAC well?
I am very familiar with the controls and handling of WAC aircraft, yes.

IC SECTION

Name: Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Race: Caucasian

What is your reason for wanting to become a member of the Navy?: The Navy has been in my blood for generations. Most of my family tree was involved with the military some time or another. I simply want to carry on the tradition of helping our troops with support roles.

Characters Backstory (2 Paragraphs!):

Kyle was born into a mostly military family, his mother being a nurse at Taulson Military Medical Center on the planet Patuxent. His father was a Lieutenant Commander aboard the UMS Distinction, an Olympus Class Heavy Battlecruiser. Whilst his mother and father were both involved with active duty, Kyle was raised with his grandmother for most of his life. At the age of 18, he graduated from O'Dell State High School and immediately applied for the Cestone Academy for Naval Science on the planet Valhalla.

His Freshman and Sophomore years at Cestone provided him with the necessary fundamentals to become a strategic tactician in the air and on the ground. His side hobbies, when he got the chance to do them, included Chess and other board games, along with RTS simulators. Unfortunately, a disclosed incident involving him and another CANS student got him expelled from the school in the final days of his Junior Year, keeping him from becoming an Officer. After months and months of paperwork filing, Kyle enlisted with the UMS Navy at a recruitment station. Whether or not his history would catch up to him depends on the Recruiter.

RP EXAMPLES ((FOR PILOTS ONLY - Only use this is applying for a pilot!))

PASSIVE

Write and detail at least fifteen lines based around the following situation: A troop needs to be picked up from field base, and you are requested for the job. Roleplay your character from liftoff, landing, and back to the fleet ship.

Explain how your character would do this:

**Kyle would be in his bunk, reading his personal novel as the announcement comes over his radio.
** Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson would roll his eyes as he smacks the covers closed, setting the book on his night table and pushing himself off and out of the bed. He reaches over for the radio, saying in a somewhat tired voice, "Copy that. ETA twenty mikes."
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would begin to quickly dress into his uniform, putting all of the necessary parts of his flight suit on him as he begins to speed walk out the door.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would eventually get to B Hangar as his VTOL is being taxi'd to the proper elevator. He would quickly embark on his aircraft, moving into the cockpit and turning on the power.
** The VTOL would then begin to shift slightly as the elevator starts to descend to the flight deck.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson waits patiently as the flight deck comes into view, the line of light from the nearby planet moving up his flight suit and into his eyes. He'd squint a bit as he turns on the shader on his helmet, shaking his head. "Tower, this is Falcon Two One ready for departure."
**Falcon Two One, this is Tower. Line up and wait at runway zero one. Helo traffic crossing runway.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would respond with his acknowledgement of orders, "Copy that. Lining up at runway zero one and holding." He would then begin to hover over towards the runway, turning the VTOL to face down it and awaiting clearance for take off. "Falcon Two One, holding on runway zero one."
**Falcon Two One, this is tower. Helo traffic clear. You are go for takeoff.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would begin to power up the second engine, putting his power to one hundred percent. "Falcon Two One to Tower. Acknowledged, go for take off." He would begin to push the stick forward with his left hand, using the right to increase the trust of the aircraft to send him speeding down the runway and out into space. "Tower, Falcon Two One. I'm clear."
**Falcon Two One, Tower. Acknowledged. Have a nice day.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would tilt the VTOL towards the planet surface as he clears the Carrier, plummeting through low orbit. He'd begin to shake continuously as the high amount of turbulence rocks his aircraft.
** Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson would pull back on the stick as he reaches a height of fifteen kilometers, moving parallel to the ground and slowly descending to a lower height as he makes his way to the field base.
**Upon entering radar range of the base, he would transmit over the radio and request clearance for approach and landing.
** Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson says over the radio, "Field Base Columbus, this is Falcon Two One."
**Falcon Two One, Columbus Tower. Go ahead.
** Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson says over the radio, "Falcon Two One is three miles East at two thousand five hundred feet. Inbound for landing. Requesting Information CHARLIE on the airspace."
**Winds are one nine zero at five, altimeter three eight point nine three. Cleared Straight in Runway zero five.
** Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson would put in the coordinates for the base and its runway, engaging the auto-pilot. "Falcon Two One, acknowledged. Inbound to runway zero five."
**Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson would land down on the runway, having his VTOL hover over to one of the loading bays. He would cautiously turn his aircraft 180 degrees so that the door to the fuselage is facing the terminal. "Loading Bay, attached. Opening hatch." He would then raise his hand up to the ceiling terminals, tapping on a few of the switches and opening the back hatch to the passenger bay. "Welcome aboard, ladies and gentleman. My name is Kyle Patterson, AKA Zeke and I'll be your pilot for the afternoon. Behind me is my co-pilot Adam Black, also known as Coyote. Federal regulations mandate that this is a non-smoking aircraft. Barf bags are on the seats above you. Make sure your serving trays are in the upright position before take-off and during landing. Thank you for riding Air Falcon, I hope you have a good ride.."
**There would be subtle laughing in the passenger bay as the intercom goes silent, along with friendly chatter.
** Kyle 'Zeke' Patterson would move his hand over the communication console, transmitting. "Tower, this is Falcon Two One. Cargo loaded. Requesting permission for departure."
**Falcon Two One, this is Tower. Acknowledged. Taxi over runway zero four and hold short.
**The VTOL would begin to leave the terminal area, using its thrusters to roll towards the designated runway. "Tower, Falcon Two One. Holding short at runway zero four. Requesting permission for take off."
**Falcon Two One, Tower. Permission granted. Have a nice day.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would push the thruster lever upwards, sending flames out of the port and starboard side thrusters as the VTOL begins to lift up into the air and shoot towards space. After some time, it would exit the atmosphere and head towards the Carrier. "Hercules Tower, Falcon Two One. Requesting permission for landing, over."
**Falcon Two One, Tower. Landing bay is clear. Come on in.

[b]COMBAT

Write and detail at least fifteen lines based around the following situation: A trooper is in critical condition, and needs IMMEDIATE pickup! You are requested for the job. The L-Z is under heavy fire, although you have ground troops covering you. Roleplay liftoff, landing, and back to the fleet ship with the wounded trooper.

Explain how your character would do this:
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would begin to rush towards his VTOL, hopping and rolling into the troop bay. He'd rush towards the cabin as the ship crews begin to quickly outfit the troop bay for medical purposes.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would start the main power up on the VTOL, flipping the switches on the console until the board in front of him lights up mostly green.
**The ship crew would finish re-outfitting the VTOL for medical duty, departing the lift off area. The signal man would begin to wave his light sticks forward and backwards.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would, now that the VTOL is at full power, begins to follow the man's direction and follow him out of the hangar. "Falcon Two One to Tower, requesting priority clearance for lift off for med-evac mission."
**Falcon Two One, Tower. Permission granted. You are clear to taxi to Runway Zero One and lift off when ready. Skies are clear for you.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would begin to follow the signalman to the runway, punching the thrust lever forward as the man gets to a knee and motions for takeoff. "Falcon Two One, outbound."
** Falcon Two One, Tower. Acknowledged. God speed.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would stick low to the ground as tracer fire begins to light up the hull of the aircraft, doing minimal damage to the aircraft. "Raptor Actual, this is Falcon Two One. Inbound to your position for med-evac. Keep the zone clear. ETA is three mikes, over."
**Falcon, this is Raptor Actual! Acknowledged! Three mikes out!"
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would speed towards the combat zone, continuing to take hits from rounds every now and then. Seeing the billowing smoke from the hit convoy, he'd make a circle around the evacuation site before setting it in.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would set the aircraft to auto-pilot as it begins to land, unstrapping himself from the pilot seat and making his way to the re-purposed troop bay. "Coyote, open up the hatch!"
**The troops on the outside would bang once on the hatch before it starts to open, gunfire beginning to echo around the aircraft as the sounds of war fill the fuselage. "Let's go! Get him in!"
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would take the stretcher as it is passed to him, hauling up the downed soldier and placing him in the troop bay. "Secured!"
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would then begin to make his way back to the cabin as the medical officer works on the man, strapping himself into the pilot seat. "Falcon Two One outbound with two extra souls on board. Returning to base." He'd wince slightly as VTOL starts to attract tracer fire like a magnet, groaning in frustration as he starts to shoot out of the area as fast as possible. "Tower, this is Falcon Two One. Requesting priority clearance for landing. One wounded male on board."
**Falcon Two One, Tower. Permission granted. Medical teams on site. Set down on runway zero one.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would begin to make his way towards the runway as it comes into view, ambulances speeding towards the end of the strip.
** Kyle 'Zeke Patterson would set the VTOL down near the ambulances, turning his aircraft around so that the hatch faces the emergency vehicles.
** Kyle would begin to unstrap himself as he opens the back hatch, exiting the cockpit and helping the medical personnel with offloading the wounded soldier.

How long have you been roleplaying?: About four years, on and off.

In a short paragraph, describe what you think the Navy/Airforce does:

The Navy is in charge of all the orbital and deep space logistics, navigation, troop transport, fighter escort, close air support, and everything in between. Navy officers command the large capital ships that all ground assaults stem from, and are that much more important to any operation across any theater of war.

Are you applying for a pilot character, or a member of the ships crew? If pilot, read the next question carefully!:

Pilot character.

** If you are applying for a piloting role, do you know how to fly WAC well?

I would consider myself an intermediate pilot with WAC, but I'm always improving.

IC SECTION

Name: Lukas Schultz

Gender: Male

Age: 32

Race: Human

What is your reason for wanting to become a member of the Navy?:

It has been a dream of mine since a very young age to fly with the colors of the N.I.A. waving. I also posses qualifications that can help me in this field, such as knowledge in aero-space technology and flight software.

Characters Backstory (2 Paragraphs!):

Lukas Schultz was born in Munich, New Germany and was brought up in a fairly traditional manner . Being born into an upper-middle class family with his father being a qualified aero-space engineer and his mother a software engineer,  it was expected that he would follow suite and achieve an education in a respectable field similar to his parents. Lukas advanced through school with general ease, getting above-average grades in his classes. His parents pushed Lukas in his education to ensure that he had options for higher level academics when he got older. Throughout growing up, Lukas harbored a growing interest in the field of military piloting and logistics. His parents attempted to sway him away from this path, as this conflicted with their plans for his future. The fact that Lukas' parents also had conflicted thoughts about the UMS did not help his situation.

By the time he had reached the German equivalent of High-School, Lukas was faced with a hard decision. Go with his parent's choices and proceed in a career of civil engineering, or break off from his family ties and join the UMS as a Navy Pilot. At this point, Lukas had been offered varying contracts with both sides of the spectrum from the few individuals  that saw his potential. Lukas knew his choice from the beginning.

His family all but rejected him when they learned that he had joined the Navy. In a way, it made it easier for him to cut his past ties, considering that he had none. The last words that his parents had said to him before he left on the express to the nearest orbital training station were, "Where did we go so wrong?". These words stung him as he rocketed through the atmosphere and completed his training. Time passed him by, though, and by the time he had been stationed on the Icarus, he couldn't even remember his parent's faces.

A knock on the reinforced glass of the transport vehicle's cockpit takes my eyes away from the display in front of me. I look to the left of the compartment,
and an unfamiliar male face stares plainly back at me from a slightly lower elevation. The individual in question wore an NCO's garb. No stars, that's good. He presses
a note pad to the window.

"OPEN UP."

I reach for the cockpit access controls, gently pressing down the control to open the hatch. The hydraulics around the cockpit hiss and tremble as the top of the
compartment hinges upwards.

"Lukas Schultz, right? Call-sign 'Ugly One'? You've got a collect-call."

The NCO flips a few pages in his folder, retrieving an all-too familiar situation report sheet passed down from Command. He hands it up to me. I take hold of the
report and flip it right-side up, reading it over.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RECIPIENT: LUKAS SCHULTZ

CALL-SIGN: UGLY ONE

SITUATION: TROOP TRANSPORT (SQUAD SIZE) FROM KINGDOM SURFACE TO ICARUS, COORDINATES AND FLIGHT PLAN PROVIDED IN FLIGHT COMPUTER AS OF 0900

PLANNED TIME OF EXECUTION: 1200

ACCOMPANYING ELEMENTS: N/A

STANDARD DOCKING AND DEPARTURE PROCEDURES APPLY. DOCKING CLEARANCE TO ICARUS: A745B (ALPHA-SEVEN-FOUR-FIVE-BRAVO)

GODSPEED.

MISSION REFERENCE NO: 52957

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I look up from the report, the NCO is already gone. I reference the watch on my left wrist and sigh, Nice of you to give me this fifteen minutes before
departure.
I tap the cockpit controls again, causing the hatch to close with a minor hissing sound as the cockpit seals and pressurizes. Looking behind me to
ensure that the linkage between the cockpit and the crew compartment is sealed, I simultaneously reach upwards and grab hold of my flight helmet. The heads-up-display
was already active and feeding data to the flight computer integrated into the vehicle. Fitting the helmet on to my head, I bring the microphone down to mouth-level
and clear my throat.

"FlightCom, this is Ugly One."

"Go for FlightCom." The robotic-sounding flight coordinator sounds more dead than usual today.

"FlightCom, authorize flight detail five-two-nine-five-seven."

"Authorizing flight detail five-two-nine-five-seven. Departure in t-minus 13 minutes, we've got a docking exit clear for you. Please notify when ready for clearance."

"Copy that FlightCom, bringing her online now, will contact when ready for departure. Ugly One out."

Reaching around the cockpit, I bring on the engine primers and fuel pumps and start the on-board battery. The craft hums to life as the cockpit displays and navigation
modules start to light up. The navigation computer begins its boot sequence and bombards my HUD with notifcations, which it automatically clears out and swiftly files
them into their respective archives.

The flight plan for the current situation is the only remaining window on the HUD, and I use the flight computer's control panel to set it as the current navigation
path. By this time, the engine primers have successfully readied the engines for idle. Flipping a switch above me, I hear the roar, and the subsequent purr of the
engines coming out of their inactive state.

The GPS display finally makes its self visible on my HUD, and then minimizes to the bottom right corner of my vision.

I reference my watch. Three minutes.

"Ugly One, this is FlightCom."

"Go for Ugly One."

"Ugly One, start taxi to available docking exit point bravo-two. Service will direct you."

"Copy that, FlightCom. Starting taxi to bravo-two."

The HUD lights up with a path that snakes behind the craft and to the left, towards one of the craft launch pads. I check the internal atmospherics of the vehicle,
ensuring that everything is pressurized, position my feet on the rudder pedals, and grab hold of the stick in the center of the cockpit. The engines whine as I
throttle them up, and the craft lurches as it raises just above the floor of the hangar.

I swing the craft around until the nose is pointed directly in the middle of two servicemen holding orange wands. They usher me to the end of the hangar, and then
direct me towards the launchpad. The craft comes to a rest just before the shield that seperates the interior from the void.

Sometimes it isn't fun being a navy pilot. Knowing that the only thing between you and endless space is a thick sheet of metal and glass. That only makes
you work harder to ensure the survivability of both you and your craft.

"Ugly One, this is FlightCom. On the mark, go for a straight-out departure. Watch wing-tips and check atmospherics. You're on your own from here on out."

"Copy that FlightCom. Interior atmospherics are functional, hull is pressurized, cockpit secure, and engines optimal. Ready for mark."

"Solid, Ugly One. Mark inbound in five, four, three, two, mark."

The craft lurches into the void as I'm pressed back into my seat by the force of the acceleration. The on-board computer corrects the heading of the craft so that
it follows the pre-plotted course precisely. I pour over the displays and make sure that no hydraulic, atmospheric, or fuel issues are present. The flight computer
beeps on and spurts out a sentence.

"Successful departure. Navigational auto-pilot active. Estimated time of arrival is at approximately 1245."

Minutes passed with nothing but the hum of the engine to keep me company. The flight computer continued to navigate the craft towards the landing zone, and I
only make minor adjustments when necessary.

About twenty minutes into the flight, the unmistakable jolting that can only mean atmospheric entry begins to take place. Tongues of red form on the cockpit window
and the outer hull of the craft. Temperature alarms blare on my HUD, but I dismiss them nonchalantly. Within seconds, the exterior of the craft is engulfed in flames.

FlightCom calls in with their scratchy frequency to make sure that I'm still on course, and I tell them so. That's sweet, they're worried about me.

The craft breaks through the upper-atmospheric clouds of the planet, the flames die down, and moisture residue begins to collect on the front window. I finally glimpse the
surface of the planet, and scan around for any nav markers that may make themselves present to me.

"Auto-pilot disengaging. Please follow navigational waypoints to objective zone."

I take the stick and guide the transport towards the first navigation marker while letting down on the engine output. The landing zone makes its self visible for the first
time. It looks like a landing pad just off of a military emplacement, where the troops waiting to be transported were, no doubt.

The final nav beacon was only about five kilometers off now, so I lower my altitude to a comfortable 700 meters for my final approach. I begin a steady descent towards the
beacon, and lower my speed to the bare minimum required for achieving a comfortable landing.

The landing gear and flaps switches are flipped, and the craft's hydraulics kick in. One kilometer off now.

I correct the craft's heading and lead her in for the landing. The landing gear touches down, jolting the transport significantly. I open the rear cargo hatch and tap in to
the local ground frequency.

"Ugly One to Ground. Whoever ordered the taxi, your ride is here."

"Uh, copy that, Ugly One. We're on our way out now."

Several figures exit the military emplacement in pairs, carrying supply crates and weapons. It takes them a few minutes to load everything up, and then a serviceman steps to
the front of the craft brandishing two orange wands. After a few more minutes of waiting for the ground team to get their gear together and load up, the air marshal gives the
'prepare for departure' signal.

I activate the PA system on the craft and speak into the microphone.

"Thank you for flying Schultz aero-sports incorporated. Today, we will be climbing to an altitude of 4,000 meters and sky diving into an urban center as part of a military show
of power."

I hear light, but nervous chuckles from the crew compartment. Turning off the PA system, I leave them with that.

The atmospheric exit process was very much similar to the entry, with a few heat alarms here and there, and most of the ground team in the back extremely nervous because of the shaking.

After coming within stable communications range with the Icarus, I tap into the FlightCom frequency.

"FlightCom, this is Ugly One."

"Go ahead for FlightCom."

"Ugly One returning from dispatch five-two-nine-five-seven. Requesting permission to dock at docking port bravo-two."

"Copy that Ugly One, provide most recent docking clearance."

"Docking clearance alpha-seven-four-five-bravo."

"Clearance checks out, proceed to docking port bravo-two and initiate standard dock procedure. Your window is ten mikes. Pull off if unable to meet, FlightCom out."

Taking control of the stick once again, I guide the craft smugly into the docking port and taxi my way back to my vehicle's service pad. The ground team dismounts, and the task is accomplished.

COMBAT

Write and detail at least fifteen lines based around the following situation: A trooper is in critical condition, and needs IMMEDIATE pickup! You are requested for the job. The L-Z is under heavy fire, although you have ground troops covering you. Roleplay liftoff, landing, and back to the fleet ship with the wounded trooper.

Explain how your character would do this:

The call came in when I was resting in my bunk. The orders changed hands from the ground commander, to the FlightCom, to me. The radio on my hip bursted into noise.
Someone was contacting me on my personal frequency.

I scramble for the device and acknowledge my attention to the relayed Ground NCO talking through it. Gunshots could be heard in the background.

"Right Ugly One, I won't cut any corners, our operation on the ground has gone to shit. We're already in the process of getting everyone evacuated, but we've got a few
wounded in critical condition that we need to get out of here NOW. I already cleared it with FlightCom and Command. Get your ass down here ASAP! Ground OUT!"

I notice an increasingly urgent tone in his voice throughout the message, but don't spend much time thinking about it while I get dressed quickly and run down the main
corridor of the Icarus towards the hangar.

My craft was already primed and waiting for takeoff, presumably prepared by one of the service men, knowledgeable about my need for a speedy departure. I slide into the
cockpit and retrieve my flight helmet, call FlightCom, and taxi to the departure point.

The flight through the atmosphere wasn't as safe as I had hoped. Due to the increased engine output while traversing the upper atmosphere, the speed of the transport was nearing the
breaking point as the craft was deposited into the lower atmosphere.

Energy-flak cannon discharge dotted the sky as the craft descended towards the LZ. The craft rumbles as some of the rounds came close to it, veering the transport slightly off course.
The ship computer warns me of multiple SAM emplacements spotted by the ground forces, and takes automatic precautions to display certain areas of the tactical map as 'danger zones'.

My receiver bursts into life when a familiar voice from the ground team calls out to me.

"Ugly One, this is the ground team, we see you now. Be advised, we've been spotting and tagging multiple hostile SAM and energy flak emplacements dotted around the area. Be careful
with your descent."

"Copy that, ground. Please provide smoke on the intended LZ when possible."

"Solid, popping green smoke on LZ. Wait one."

After a few orbits around the AO, the smoke mentioned by the ground team finally becomes visible. I set my navigational computer to designate the area as a landing zone, and veer to
follow the course that it provides me.

A high-pitched tone sounds, and my HUD alerts me of a radar lock. The computer disengages the countermeasure safety, and I punch a button on the right of the stick. Flares spew out
in batches of three from both sides of the craft, and I break right just in time to evade a missile that whizzes just past the craft's wingtip.

I dip the transport down to tree-top level and make an attempt to keep the craft on course as multiple energy flak arrays open up on my position.

Three kilometers.

A flak burst catches the front right engine nacelle. Hydraulic pressure warnings flood my HUD, and a fuel leak alert blares across the navigation display. I dismiss all of the warnings
and look to the right of the craft. The R1 engine is aflame, hydraulic fuel is leaking in considerable amounts, and most of the engine was blown away.

Two kilometers.

I reach for the fuel pump controls and shut off fuel flow to the damaged engine, and the flame dies down after a few seconds. Returning my attention to the nav display, I drop my flaps
and gear and lead the landing. The troops on the ground were already danger-close to the LZ, waiting to load wounded on to my transport.

One kilometer.

A flak burst explodes just above the cockpit.

Dipping down one last time, the landing gear makes contact with the soil and I open the rear cargo hatch. A few troops run forwards in pairs of two, holding stretchers with bloodied bodies between them.

It takes less than a minute for all the wounded to be loaded on, and just as I am throttling up the engine, I notice some movement in the corner of my vision. No, not movements.

Muzzle flashes.

The reinforced window of the cockpit is peppered with small arms fire, and I duck down below the controls instintively. I take the craft in to full vertical flight, and push the
collective to the limit. The transport rockets towards the sky, and after a few seconds I bring my head back up to the reinforced window.

Luckily, the window is layered so that should one layer of glass be penetrated and compromised, another layer will still protect the interior of the craft and contain proper
atmospherics.

Very lucky indeed.

The outer window was absolutely demolished. Bullet holes the size of large grapes had penetrated the outer layer, leaving nothing but shattered and broken glass in their wake.

The rest of the flight was fairly calm, all things considered. The atmosphere was a little harder to break through, what with only three of four functional engines. The leaking
of hydraulic fluid and the subsequent loss of hydraulic pressure meant that I was on the clock.

It didn't turn out to matter too much. I returned to the Icarus with acceptable damage. The front right engine would have to be completely replaced, of course, and the hydraulics
throughout the craft would have to be checked for consistency and checked against operational standards.

The important thing was that through that flight,  lives were saved, and I can sleep with that.

OOC Age: 15

How long have you been roleplaying?: Four Years overall.

In a short paragraph, describe what you think the Navy/Airforce does: The Navy/Airforce are a crucial part of the military, They fly in the units from the ship above the planet, and need trained pilots for certain scenarios that come across them, such as a hot landing zone, and do bombing runs and other certain special tasks that are useful for the military as a whole. They're equipped to deal with ground units and air units if need be, and are a great asset to any military plan.

Are you applying for a pilot character, or a member of the ships crew? If pilot, read the next question carefully!:

** If you are applying for a piloting role, do you know how to fly WAC well?
Yes, I'd say i've grown fond of running around a map called GM-Fork in Halo Vehicles.

IC SECTION

Name: Tasha Sutherland

Gender: Female

Age: 25

Race: Caucasian

What is your reason for wanting to become a member of the Navy?:

Characters Backstory (2 Paragraphs!):
She was born in New New York, on the planet New Earth. Sure it was a scummy part of the city, but she was born with the starts alright... Well, if you count stealing from them. Her mother and father abandoned her at the age of twelve, but she had her sister, and a close friend, Clyde to get through this mess... The went to numerous homeless shelters, taking as much free stuff as they could and left without a trace. With all the money they stole, they managed to send her to a school with supplies and such, so she could be educated for the life she wanted.

At the age of eighteen she enlisted into the military, with the hopes of becoming a pilot, after months of torturous work, she finally got there, but not without it's hardships. She was picked on, being one of the only female pilot recruits in that recruitment camp, she became detached and lonely, working through all she needed to do but alone, it didn't help when it came to the team tasks, she was always left out, and shouted at for it. She did her best and managed to get through it, and ended up aboard this ship.

Tasha Sutherland jumps into the Helo, flipping switches and levers, the engines powering up with a vibrant hum...
Tasha Sutherland radios "Gunner, you alright back there? Ready to go?"
[5'3 | Standing tall...] radios "All clear back here."
Tasha Sutherland slowly increases the throttle, the helo lifting up slowly and the back doors closing with a loud thumph.
The ship's engines rotate, and Tasha increases the throttle to 75%, the helo blasting out of the hangar down to the planet.
Tasha Sutherland points the nose up as she enters the planet, the heat from the atmosphere creating a wonderful effect.
The ship is rattling and shaking for a couple moments, then stops, Tasha tilts the helo forward, going down towards the LZ.
Tasha slowly lands the ship, the engines rotating back to the downwards position as the helo jolts from the landing gear hitting the pad.
The back doors open slowly.
Tasha Sutherland radios "Hop in sir, We're ready when you are to clear this dust bowl."
[6'2 | Dirty Armour...] enters the ship, radioing in. "We're ready to roll, pilot."
Tasha Sutherland closes the back door, lifting the helo up gently, and pushing the throttle to max, lifting the nose gently upwards.
Suddenly, beeping and red flashing lights are seen and heard around the cabin.
Tasha Sutherland yells "Shit!"
The helo rotates and jolts to the left as the missle gently slides past the rear engine.
Tasha Sutherland points the nose straight up, blasting them out of the situation.
She wipes her brow as the ship gets out of orbit, she aims for the hangar doors and throttles down to 25%
Tasha Sutherland lands the helo gently, sighing loudly, turning off the engines and opening the back doors.

Tasha Sutherland quickly enters the helo, the two gunners entering the side guns, she flips some switches, the engines roaring to life quickly.
The ship lifts off the pad, heading straight for the city where the unit is injured.
Tasha Sutherland dodges the buildings, the LZ filled with fire.
Tasha Sutherland gets over the LZ, But suddenly a beeping is heard from the dash, she quickly puts the throttle to zero, dropping as the missile almost hits her.
The Helo lands with a thud as the engines cut out, she flips some switches, trying to get the engines back on.
The wounded is loaded as the gunners fire at the enemies as the blades slowly spin after the overheat.
Tasha Sutherland pushes the throttle up to full, the engines stuttering and raising the craft slowly.
Another beeping sound is heard from the console as the side gunner shoots the RPG out of the sky.
Tasha Sutherland wipes her brow quickly, sighing and pushing towards the base.
The engine sputters towards the LZ, coming in hot and quickly.
Tasha Sutherland attempts to land on the pad
The right engine cuts out, and the helo starts spinning.
Tasha Sutherland says "Hold on!"
The Helo crashes with a thud, but still alive.
Tasha Sutherland says "Thank god..."
